You can do it by reducing the number of possessions and activities in your life. Attack clutter first. Too much stuff is a major cause of stress. Start room to room, clearing every closet, shelf, drawer and file of objects that aren't earning their keep. Unread articles, unused toys, unworn clothing, old cosmetics, and tools. Remember, everything you buy or collect requires tending, storing, cleaning, repairing, moving, etc.- Eliminate Trivia from your life: excess book clubs, tv progams, etc...
- If email is essential: select convenient times to check it.
- Give your cell phone number to only a select few: like your mate or sitter.
- Put the kids to work: extra chores, and cleaning up clutter.
- Plan a week of meals: shop only once to save time.
- Don't procrastinate: finish a task rather than putting it off.
- Try to do one thing at a time: complete one task before starting another.
Make work days...WELL Days!. For more energy and comfort on the job. Does your job sometimes feel like a battle against backache, eyestrain, and fatigue? Some minor adjustments in your routine and workspace can boost your energy level and reduce tension.- Eat Breakfast- Your body needs fuel. Pack low-fat foods such as fruit, fresh cut veggies, juice and popcorn.
- Watch your caffiene- Limit coffee, and excess caffiene as it may trigger drowsiness later. Drink water throughout the day.
- Watch your posture- Slouching can resrtict circulation and make your muscles achy and tired.
- Get comfy- Adjust your workspace to suit your physical needs.
- Take a breather- If you feel stiff, tired or stressed, take a moment to stretch or get some fresh air.
10 Essential Health Tips:
- MOVE MORE - Make it a daily challenge to find ways to move your body. Climb stairs rather than taking elevators/escalators. Walk your dog, chase your kids, mow the lawn... Anything that moves your limbs is not only a fitness tool, but also a stress buster.
- Cut Fat - Avoid the obvious. Fried foods, burgers, and other fatty meats. Dairy products such as cheese, cottage cheese, milk and cream should be eaten in low-fat versions. Nuts and sandwich meats, mayonnaise, margarine, butter and sauces should be eaten in limited amounts. Find low-fat or substitutes whenever available.
- Quit Smoking - In 1960, the Surgeon General announced that smoking was harmful to your health. It can lead to several life threatening diseases, as well as bad breath, yellowing of the teeth, skin and clothing.
- Reduce Stress - Stress comes from many sources. Find a natural stress buster that works for you and do it daily. Soak in a hot tub, go for a walk on the beach, read a book or magazine, visit a friend, watch a funny movie, these are just a few good suggestions.
- Protect yourself from pollution - If you can't live in a smog-free environment, at least avoid smoke filled rooms, high traffic areas, breathing in fumes, etc. Plant lots of shrubs in your yard, and buy several houseplants, these are good pollution deterrents.
- Wear your Seat Belt - Statistics show that seat belts add to longevity and help alleviate potential injuries in car crashes.
- Floss your Teeth - People who floss their teeth tend to be more health conscious than people that don't. Recent studies make a direct connection between longevity and flossing.
- Avoid Excessive Drinking - While studies show a glass of wine or one drink per day (two for men) can protect against heart disease, more than that can cause other health problems such as liver and kidney disease and cancer.
- Keep a Positive Mental Outlook - There is a definite connection between living well and healthfully and having a cheerful outlook on life.
- Choose your Parent Well - The link between genetics and health is a powerful one. But just because one or both of your parents died young, or inill health, doesn't mean you cannot counteract the genetic pool handed to you.
